Dr. Khaled Fahmy, Minister of Environment has assured that the inauguration of Wadi Al-Hitan and climate change museum in El Rayyan valley is considered the beginning of a new phase of transformation towards nature conservation concept which is based on the economic usage of resources by environmentally compatible methods, which generates economic revenues that opens the door for the natural protected areas to be self managing of its resources and covering its needs by getting rid of the centralized administration and adopting a private financial sustainable activities with the availability of the necessary expertise in the natural protected areas.
This came during a speech of Dr. Khaled Fahmi, Minister of the Environment at the inauguration of Wadi Al-Hitan and climate change museum in the presence of Dr. Ahmed Zaki Badr, Minister of Local Development , advisor Wael Makram governor of Fayoum , Mr. Marizio Massari Italy's ambassador in Egypt and Ms. Anteta Nerody resident representative of the United Nations Development Program in addition to a number of representatives of national and international agencies.
Fahmy said that today is a new start for ecotourism concept in Fayoum governorate which is mainly dependent on the local population to be a key partner in conservation of natural protected areas through integrating them in the special economic activities, in addition to activating the principle of decentralization of protected areas , which represent 15% of Egypt’s area to achieve environmental sustainability
