Dr. Khaled Fahmi, Minister of Environment meets Mr. Nikos Koailis Cyprian Minister of Agriculture , Rural Development and the Environment to discuss activating the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries in 2006, where the meeting comes within the visit of Cyprian Minister to follow up the outputs of trilateral summit which was held last month between Egypt ,Cyprus and Greece.
Fahmi has reviewed during the meeting, the Egyptian Ministry of Environment tasks and areas of work, and the functions of the new waste management agency, for which a decree was issued recently as well as solid waste management system in Egypt, in addition to reviewing the terms of Paris Agreement that was concluded during COP 21 on Climate Change, which was held in Paris by the end of 2015.
The Cyprian minister called for activating the joint cooperation between Egypt and Cyprus in the field of marine environment in the Mediterranean, and solid waste management and how to deal with it, in addition to reducing carbon emissions from the transportation sector.
It is worth to be mentioned that the memorandum of understanding signed between Egypt and Cyprus in 2006 included a number of cooperation areas, including air quality monitoring, biodiversity, nature protection, waste management, and marine environment protection, as well as sewage water treatment to be reused for agricultural purposes, and the development of education system in the field of environmental protection.
